Welcome to our Autumn Skills and Employment Update!

Our Skills and Employment Service works with autistic job-seekers to develop their skills and find tailored work experience, internships, apprenticeships and paid employment.  Planning for adulthood should start from Year 9, so that young people and their family have the right support from education, health or social care in their final years at school to prepare for work and independent living.  That’s why in addition to our programmes for people who are not in education, employment or training, we also provide Transition Support through parent workshops and follow up 1-2-1 sessions with young people aged 14 years plus.

Please find details of our latest activities and programmes below:

*BRAND NEW* SECTOR-BASED WORK ACADEMY PROGRAMME (IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UXBRIDGE COLLEGE)

 WHO:                Adults aged 19 years+  (This course is subject to specific funding criteria – see referral link for more information)

WHAT: Gain skills, knowledge and experience in employability skills and the hospitality sector and improve your confidence in preparing for and performing in a job interview.  Participants will work towards a Level 1 Employability qualification which will lead to a guaranteed job interview with The Bull Hotel, Gerrards Cross for everyone who successfully completes the 7-day training programme. 

WHERE: Based at Uxbridge College Hayes Campus with all sessions supported by a HACS Job Coach. 

WHEN:Course start date: Monday 4th October / Course end date: Thursday 14th October

 TRANSITION SUPORT

WHO: Young people living in Hillingdon aged 14-25 years and their parents/carers

WHAT: Parent/carer training and 1-2-1 support for young people who are making the transition from school, college or university to adult life (aged 14 to 24 years). Our parent/carer support session will cover a range of topics, including post-16 pathways, preparing for independent living, legal considerations and sources of financial support.  Young people will have the option to engage in 1-2-1 support sessions to consider their future aspirations and support available to them.

WHERE:Parent support session: online / Young people’s 1-2-1 support online or in-person

WHEN: Parent support session: Transition to Adulthood, Getting it Right from Year 9 (21st October, 10.30am – 12.30pm)

1-2-1 sessions at mutually agreed times

STEP UP PROGRAMME (SUPPORTED BY LONDON BOROUGH OF HILLINGDON & YOUTH FUTURES FOUNDATION)

WHO:                Young people living in Hillingdon aged 16-25 years (not in education, employment or training).

WHAT:              The “Step Up” programme supports young people to take their first steps towards employment, through a stimulating programme of skills development and confidence building activities, together with one-to-one support with job applications and interview practice. Job-seekers must have a personal motivation to work to access this programme and will require an assessment of literacy skills.

WHERE:           Online and in person at HACS Resource Centre

WHEN:              On-going

GET TOGETHER (SUPPORTED BY IMPERIAL HEALTH CHARITY)

WHO:                Adults living in Hillingdon aged 18 years and over

WHAT:              Get Together offers a range of social activities and physical and mental wellbeing sessions, where we will be learning to live a healthier life! Get Together includes a group learning programme and will require an initial skills assessment. Additional funding may be required from Adult Social care depending on initial assessment of need.

WHERE:           Online and in person at HACS Resource Centre

WHEN:              On-going

SKILL SMART (SUPPORTED BY SUPPORTED BY LONDON BOROUGH OF HILLINGDON)

WHO:                Adults living in Hillingdon aged 25 years and over

WHAT:              Group-based employment skills sessions mixed with 1-2-1 job application support for those not in employment, education and training.  Job-seekers must have a personal motivation to work to access this programme and will require an assessment of literacy skills.  Additional funding may be required from Adult Social care depending on initial assessment of need.

WHERE:           Online and in person at HACS Resource Centre

WHEN:              On-going
