High Achieving Pupils
HOW DOES HAYDON SCHOOL IDENTIFY HIGH ACHIEVING PUPILS?
We look at student data (CATs/OMRs/APS etc) and identify the 15-20 most able (academic) pupils from each year group. We no longer rely on staff nominations each year for academic performance. Students will remain on the HAP list for each key stage and the list will be reviewed at the end of each key stage based on the most up- to -date data.
WHAT DO WE DO FOR HIGH ACHIEVING PUPILS?
There is a lead teacher for each Key Stage and we will be creating opportunities for students including providing extracurricular activities, information on clubs, information on universities and options, and tailor-made trips specific to students’ interests and aspirations.
Also, teachers are aware of and provide extension/enrichment work, where appropriate for their students during lessons. The idea is to create opportunities for students to thrive in their subjects and to inspire them to raise their aspirations.
WHAT CAN PARENTS DO TO HELP?
Parents may sometimes find the idea of their child being a High Achieving Pupil quite daunting. Please do not worry, parents are a great support just by asking their child how they are progressing, what they have done or areas that they find difficult etc. you are not necessarily there to support them with the subject material itself. Just being able to talk with your child about their achievements is great encouragement in itself.
