Haydon@Home Challenge -Week 5/6

Find out who are Week 5 Haydon @ Home Challenge Winners - and what our Week 6 Challenge is :

javascript:;Dear Parents,

As the recent Government announcement seems to suggest that there sadly will be no immediate return for secondary schools.  Now seems like a good time to remind and reassure you that the #weareHaydon@Home challenges are one way that we as a school community are reaching out to students and parents.  We have been so impressed by the volume and quality of entries so far and hope that you have found them useful and an engaging way to help show off our Haydon school values.

As well as the list of suggested Haydon@Home tasks (see attached), Year Leaders are sending out weekly virtual links (see this week’s links below) to help enrich the extended period students are spending away from school.

I hope that students will keep a record of the tasks they complete during this time and share them with their form tutors and year leaders alongside their entries to the weekly challenges.

Mr Wake’s #5 Haydon@Home Challenge

After Mr Knowles’s dilemma in choosing last week’s baking challenge winners, this week’s lip sync challenge had three stand-out entrances (please click on the links to see the videos).

The staff winner saw the Casey Clan storm ahead by stating their intentions!

Whilst serial Haydon@home challenge winners the Thomas-Baruya family made a real bang with their entry!

The final winner was another Justin Beiber song this time by the Parekh family

Mr Davis’s Weekly Cooking @Home Challenge

Mr Davis’s pancake recipe proved extremely popular,  he chose four runners up Kamryn Robinson 7EKM, Anum HUSSAIN 12SFB, Filip Bowsunowski 7JAL,  Dhiya PATEL 7WJM.

This week’s winner was this chocolate and blueberry creation by Anouska Aluni 8SPV.  Pictures of the finalists entries can be viewed here.

This week’s challenge is Paella all entries should be made to Mr Davis’s Google classroom (Google Classroom Code: 4w6v74k) by midday Wednesday 3rd June.

Ingredients:  1 tbsp olive oil, 1 onion, 1 tsp each hot smoked paprika and dried thyme 300g paella or risotto rice 400g can chopped tomatoes, 900ml chicken stock, 400g bag frozen seafood mix OR Chicken (ideally thighs), juice ½ lemon, handful flat-leaf parsley

Method:  Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large frying pan or wok. Add 1 chopped onion and soften for 5 mins.  Stir in 1 tsp hot smoked paprika, 1 tsp dried thyme and 300g paella or risotto rice, stir for 1 min, then splash in 3 tbsp sherry or white wine, if using.  Once it has evaporated, stir in a 400g can of chopped tomatoes with garlic and 900ml chicken stock. Season and cook, uncovered, for about 15 mins, stirring now and again until rice is almost tender and still surrounded with some liquid.  Stir 400g frozen seafood mix into the pan and cover with a lid. Simmer for 5 mins, or until the seafood is cooked through and the rice is tender.  Squeeze over the juice of ½ lemon, scatter with a handful of flat-leaf parsley and serve with wedges from the remaining ½ lemon.

#6 Mrs Arnold’s (Ikea inspired) Haydon@Home Challenge

This week’s challenge was recommended by Mrs Arnold our Head of A-Level Maths after she read about Ikea’s release of instructions on how to build a fort at home.

So this week’s challenge is to do exactly that, we would like you to use the guidance provided by Ikea here or come up with your own design to build your fort.  You can of course create it outside of your home (keeping to Government guidance!) and be as creative as you like in the use of materials.  Please upload your photographs to Satchel and ensure you do get your parents’ permission before turning your bedrooms upside down!

Due to the half-term break this week’s challenge entries must be submitted to Satchel by midday on Wednesday 3rd June.

I hope you have a restful half-term and thank you for all your continued support
