Haydon School / Language College / Training at Haydon / Languages Across Hillingdon
Haydon continues to provide valuable support for MFL across the Borough. Foreign language assistants recently came to Haydon for training which helped them understand the level of support which they can offer pupils as they prepare for their oral exams. Haydon is also at the forefront of training on the new GCSE exams. Ms Kilburn ran training for one of the exam boards, to help staff understand how to help pupils prepare for the new oral exams. She and Ms Fallon, Head of Languages at Abbotsfield School, then led training on these new exams for all Heads of Languages in Hillingdon. This session was really well received by staff who felt hugely supported in managing these significant changes in the way languages are examined. In the summer term, Haydon will organise and host training on the new GCSEs for the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, which will enable us to share our excellent practice with schools from across London. Ms Daly, Ms Norguet and Ms Fontana continue to provide outstanding support for primary school teachers who deliver languages in their schools. This term the focus of their training is cross-curricular and cultural links. In addition, Ms Daly is in the process of establishing a mentoring scheme for primary school languages teachers who would like more individualised support from a member of the Languages Faculty at Haydon.
