Lunch with the Mayor
On Monday 14th March Mr Robertshaw and Mrs Barrett from the MFL department and our German work placement student Andrea Jungbauer were invited to lunch with the Mayor of Hillingdon.
The reason for this invitation? Andrea who is working with us for 6 weeks as part of her University qualification lives in the town of Emden, in Germany which is twinned with Hillingdon. The idea of “town twinning” originated after the Second World War in Europe as a way to bring people from different European countries closer together. This is achieved by promoting links, better understanding of various cultures and challenging stereotypical images by developing cross-border projects for mutual benefit.
We arrived at the Mayor’s chambers at the Civic Centre in Uxbridge and we were escorted to the Mayor’s parlour where we were given a tour of the historical artefacts associated with the many past Mayors in Hillingdon. We looked at photographs of the Queen’s visits to Hillingdon in 2002 and 2006 and had a tour of the Council chambers where all the key decisions affecting the Borough are made. We then had an informal lunch where we had the opportunity to chat about the importance of forging good relationships with Emden and what the future possibilities are for our school.
Haydon continues to provide valuable support for MFL across the Borough.
