2018 Examiniation Results

I was delighted with this summer’s examination results and I would like to congratulate all of the students in Years 11 and 13.  It was pleasing that their hard work has been rewarded!  The examination results days are very enjoyable seeing the youngsters rewarded for their hard work and successfully moving on to the next stage of their lives.

Year 11

This year there were new GCSE examinations in many subjects and now most subjects are graded on the 9 to 1 scale.  I was delighted with the increase in the number of top grades awarded and would like to pass on my congratulations to all of our students.

  • 14% of all GCSE grades were 9 or 8 or A*  (up from 9% last Year). Indeed, Haydon School students achieved 473 9s, 8s, A*s and As. This is a superb achievement!
  • 28.1% of GCSE grades were graded 7 to 9 or A* and A (up from 24.5% last year).
  • 62.4% of GCSE grades were graded 5 to 9 or A* to B (up from 54.1% last year)

The government has introduced new measures of accountability for schools.  At Haydon School 74% of students got a standard pass (Grade 4 or higher) in English and mathematics and 56% got a good pass in both English and mathematics (Grade 5 or higher).  The attainment 8 figure increased for the third year in a row and is significantly above the national average.
The percentage of pupils achieving the English Baccalaureate was 26.53%.

Year 13

At A-level, examinations are changing and the vast majority are now assessed at the end of the second year. The Year 13 A-level and BTEC National results were very good: 45% of grades were at A* to B and 68% at A* to C.

I have recently received the report on the destinations of our Year 13 students going to university: 170 Haydon School students are looking forward to starting at University at the end of September; 42 students have been accepted at a Russell Group University

It is a very exciting time for the students and I wish them every success in the coming years. Just to give you a flavour of the destinations that our students will be attending:

2017 Examiniation Results

In 2017 the Year 13 A-Level and BTEC National results were excellent: 53% of grades were at A* to B and 76% at A* to C.  This was a significant improvement on the 2016 results. The total number of students going on to University in September 2017 currently stands at 181 including 58 to Russell Group Universities, the most challenging to get into.  We have had almost identical figures in each of the last four years.  In Year 12 the results were also outstanding.  The A to B at 46% gives the students a good platform on which to build.

At GCSE 76% of students achieved a good pass in English and mathematics and 70% of students gained 5 A* to C passes including English and mathematics.  24% of all entries were graded A or A* or 7, 8 or 9 and 54% were graded A* to B or 6, 7, 8, or 9.  In mathematics, 79% of students achieved grades 4 to 9 and 58% 5 to 9 and in English 84% achieved grades 4 to 9 and 74% 5 to 9.

2016 - Haydon hits new heights

Despite a national dip in results at GCSE, Haydon students delivered an improved set of results on 2015. We were also delighted with our performance in the new government measure of accountability for schools. 79% of our students achieved an A* - C grade in English and mathematics. 81% of students achieved 5 or more A* to C grades. 72% of students achieved 5 A* to C including English and mathematics.

Haydon's Sixth form also continues to produce excellent results, leading to the highest number of students winning university places this year for 5 years - 182. Impressively, 55 of these were at the top Russell Group Universities.
