Gary Page

CURRENT JOB TITLE/COURSE, Technical Lead

YEAR OF LEAVING, 2004

FAVOURITE SUBJECT IN HAYDON SCHOOL AND WHY? Music! Completely unrelated to what I do now, but it was something I used to be very passionate about at school.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE SINCE LEAVING HAYDON SCHOOL ? Studied Computer Science at Portsmouth University. Have since held software engineering positions in the defence, emergency services, and healthcare industries, both contract and permanent. Currently working as a Technical Lead at Guy’s and St. Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. Additionally, I have founded my own company for contracting and occassionally undertake freelance engagements (consultancy, web sites etc.)

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT IN LIFE AND HOW DID YOUR EXPERIENCE AT HAYDON SCHOOL HELP YOU TO ACHIEVE OTHER SUCCESSES? The subjects I took for GCSE were very Science based and were a good platform to build upon at university, which in turn led to further development post-study.

WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO CURRENT STUDENTS? Always question what you see and what you know, both internally and seek feedback from peers, seniors and juniors. You’ll be surprised what you can learn and develop from it.

WHAT’S YOUR NEXT BIG GOAL? Taking a proof-of-concept website used by a handful of GPs, building a team and uplifting it into a much bigger space (e.g. open-source).
